VENDOR SPOTLIGHT // PETAL TO THE METAL
Such a fun, fresh vendor spotlight on the blog today! Say hello to Colleen Milne -- the colourful, creative face behind Petal to the Metal!
A short description of what you do: At Petal To The Metal we provide unique, lush, garden-style florals for weddings and events, specializing in bouquets and fresh flower crowns.
How long have you been working in the wedding industry? Just 2 years now...I'm new to the wedding industry but have a landscape design/horticulture background.
What makes your business unique? What makes Petal To The Metal unique is the flower truck! We're Ontario's first mobile flower truck, which allows us to attend markets, weddings & special events with all of our lovely, fresh product. We can even come to your special event with the truck and set up a custom flower crown bar for your guests!
Favourite part of your business? Everything! I'm so passionate and fortunate to able to work with flowers every day and to be able to create beautiful florals for my client's special events. Rolling up to markets in the flower truck is certainly lots of fun too!
What inspires you? What inspires me are all things nature and flora. I'm inspired by the changing seasons and always use flowers that are in season, or better yet, that I can forage from my own gardens to give that special/natural/garden-style touch.
Who is your mentor/hero in the industry? (your own industry or the Niagara wedding industry) My mentor in the floral industry is the lovely Elaine who owns From The Potting Shed in Cambridge. Her aesthetic and love of garden-style florals is exciting and encouraging, and I aspire to be where she is with her career someday. She has taught me so much.
On your day off...where would we find you? Playing around in my gardens, walking my pup or hanging outside with my family.
If you weren't a wedding vendor, what would be your dream job? This IS actually my dream job... I never thought I would be a florist, even though it had been my dream since I was little.
What great wedding trends are you seeing this year? Loving the dark, moody vibes in florals that we're seeing for this coming season. They have so much personality and you can achieve so much texture and depth with the dark colours...I'm into it!
