VENDOR SPOTLIGHT // THE VENUE COUNSELLOR
Meet Laura. She is the brilliant person behind THE VENUE COUNSELLOR and every time we explain to someone in the wedding industry what it is she does, they are blown away!
Laura is an independent venue specialist, focusing on the Niagara Region. I help clients find the perfect location for their wedding. Read on... you won't be disappointed!
How long have you been working in the wedding industry? I've been in events for over 12 years
What makes your business unique? I'm not a Planner. I'm not a Venue. I am however a one stop shop when you're looking for a unique or fun venue in Niagara. I work with some of the most talented wedding people in the wedding industry and I represent many amazing properties. Some of which are private....you can't access them without me!
Favourite part of your business? Oh my goodness, where do I begin with my favourite part of my business! I guess first and foremost, would be the amazing people I get to work with. I've met some of the most awesome couples....it humbles me that they trust me to find them the perfect venue for one of the most important days of their lives.
I love the freedom I have working as an independent venue agent. I've lived in Niagara my entire life, and I'm still discovering new and awesome locations....it's unbelievable to me hwo many hidden gems there are in my 'backyard'!
What inspires you? Knowing that I make a small impact on someone else's life by my actions, inspires me to do good each day and to be the best person I can be each day.
Who is your mentor/hero in the industry? I'm surrounded by so many of them, some new to the industry, others that have been doing it forever! Sorry.......I can't pick just one.
On your day off...where would we find you?
I don't usually have a day off....I'm always in work mode! But when given the opportunity to do something non-work related I'm either cycling around our beautiful region in the early morning hours or hanging out with my family and friends, preferably on a patio with my maraca's in tow!
If you weren't a wedding vendor, what would be your dream job? A professional tennis or volleyball player. (ps.. I suck at both!)
Heeeyyyyy...how about a professional chip tester! Yah...a chip tester!
What great wedding trends are you seeing this year? I look past the trends and really see clients breaking bread with family and friends and dancing the night away. It's not trendy but man it makes for a fantastic party!
Do you have any practical advice for couples planning a wedding? Again....where to start! I guess the most practical advice I give clients on a regular basis would be to trust your heart. When something feels right.....go with it. When your heart says something's off...it most likely is. Trusting yourself sounds simple, but when you get caught up in the emotions of planning a wedding, it's not as easy as you think!
