VENDOR SPOTLIGHT // ROSES + TWINE FLORAL STUDIO
Last week we met with Myrica from Roses + Twine Floral Studio and chatted with her about business and the wedding industry. Looking for a Niagara florist? How long have you been working in the wedding industry? Just about 5 years now, and almost 3 as Roses + Twine.
What makes your business unique? I try my best to source my product from local growers….I even have my own mini flower garden going in the summer and fall. That way I know I will have some one of a kind and interesting flowers to add into bouquets to make them just a little more special. I also try my best to accommodate my clients, so they are getting what they had envisioned for their wedding day, but with my own twist onto something to make it truly special.
Favourite part of your business? I get to sit down and meet some of the most amazing couples…I love to hear what people do, why they choose to get married in Niagara and just what makes them unique. All those tiny little details we talk about will influence the type of style of arrangements I make…For me, flowers need to reflect someone’s personality and its my job to do that.
Another favourite part of my business would definitely be flower delivery day. Its like Christmas morning…Instantly my studio is filled with the prettiest colours, textures, and smells. You can’t beat it.
What inspires you? Travelling and walking through gardens (Especially doing both those things at the same time!). I love seeing the way things grow in nature…seeing balance, composition and colours in the places I travel to definitely influence my style and the way I work with flowers.
Who is your mentor/hero in the industry? Oh, there are so many amazing vendors within Niagara…I am really only starting to get to know them all, but I am always encouraged by how supportive everyone is of one another. In the floral industry as a whole, I love following flower-farmers—those who are designing but growing a lot of their own product. Floret and Saipua are my two favourites. I also tend to follow a lot of New Zealand based designers…Leaf and Honey is a great one. Her designs and colour palettes are swoon worthy!
On your day off...where would we find you?
If its sunny and warm? Definitely outside… preferably poolside. Or catching up on a few favourite blogs, in a yoga class, or dreaming about my next travel adventure.
If you weren't a wedding vendor, what would be your dream job? That’s a tough one…I don't think I have ever really thought about doing anything else. If I had to choose—something that still involves flowers in some shape or form.
What great wedding trends are you seeing this year? Lots of garlands and big open blooms. Overall, I am still seeing a more garden inspired look, but with a bit of an edgier mood to it. I love it!
Do you have any practical advice for couples planning a wedding? Absolutely…try not to underestimate the importance of finding the right vendor that fits with you. I recently read an Instagram post that said, “You wouldn’t hire Adele and ask her to preform like Beyonce”. I know I want my clients to be a good fit for my personality and how I roll but also be a match to the overall aesthetic that my designs bring.
Also, bring your own unique personalities to your wedding…Be unconventional, non traditional. Its your wedding day, so do whats reflects who you are as a couple.
