Gillian and Scotts's wedding took place during the middle of the 2020 covid year. I thought it was the perfect occasion to represent Covid weddings because it was small, intimate, well-spaced, and took place outdoors. The wedding was absolutely wonderful! The guests were so relaxed and enjoyed themselves immensely. They were also far more focused on being present for Gillian and Scott than being entertained by a big flashy wedding.
Larger weddings can be exhausting for everyone because of the tight schedules, jam-packed itineraries, and an overwhelming amount of details that could easily go wrong. Gillian and Scott's wedding day was far from this! Even as a vendor, I felt like I was spending time with friends instead of working because there was such wonderful ease to the entire event. As a bride to be myself, I think it was the perfect way to celebrate!

After COVID-19 brought our plans for a large banquet hall wedding to a screeching halt, we realized that what we both really wanted was to get married as initially planned. We decided to adapt to the current situation and marry in an intimate backyard wedding just two months after our original wedding date. Even though we did not originally intend to have an intimate wedding, everything evolved so perfectly. We found a venue and vendor team that was kind, understanding, and ready to make our vision a reality.
I was so nervous the days leading up to our wedding day. With all the uncertainty, I found myself constantly checking the latest news updates to see if there were any changes that would cause us the postpone our wedding once again. On the morning of our wedding day, I definitely didn’t feel nervous or stressed at all, just rather excited that the day had finally come! I got ready with my mom, sisters and maid of honour. We had a lovely relaxing morning getting our hair and makeup done on the property while sipping mimosas. Everything felt normal for once and I couldn’t wait to put my dress on and see Scott!
The floral design was one of my favorite parts of the wedding. Emily from Threads & Blooms is a floral genius! From my bouquet to the ceremony and the cocktail reception, she made everything looked so dreamy and romantic.
The most sentimental detail from our wedding day was our first dance song – “Lost Together” by Blue Rodeo. Scott and I have always been Blue Rodeo fans and we picked this song after attending their concert last summer in Toronto. With all the craziness of COVID, “Lost Together” became our anthem. If I was having a bad day, Scott would play our first dance song to remind me that “If we're lost, then we are lost together” and “your love is all I need”. No matter what life throws at us, we will always have each other to get through the tough times and the song is just a reminder of that. Finally dancing together in front of our loved ones to a song that meant so much to us was incredible.
Our wedding was the most romantic outdoor celebration of love. It was just a joyful, warm, and vibrant day from start to finish and that was truly us. Everything was so simple and timeless and the property was nothing short of amazing. Our wedding was the best day of my life, and I wish I could relive it again and again. While we missed every person that was supposed to be there, we are so happy we were able to still celebrate with our close family and dearest friends.
My advice for brides during COVID is that whether you decided to postpone your day, or decided to celebrate with a small group or just the two of you, your day will still be memorable and perfect. Just remember that your love for each other is all you need.
