RICHMOND HILL WEDDING VENUE OAKVIEW TERRACE // F10 STUDIOS
Our next feature in our Black History Month series is this gorgeous wedding from F10 Studios. How beautiful are Amalia + Osahon? Their special day was incredibly elegant and classic.
We were able to chat with Osahon a little bit more about their love story and why we should be having important conversations around Black History Month, and he provided the most beautiful insight with us! Read on to learn more about Amalia + Osahon.
How did you meet? Our journey didn’t begin with chemistry, it began with mathematics. We met in a calculus class at university. We only had one class together throughout our whole time there, but that one class was all it took.
How long have you been together? We’ve been together for a little over seven years now.
Tell us about your engagement story. The story we went with was that he had to come to pick up camera batteries from me and so he had to meet us while we hiked.
Once he arrived, he claimed he needed to test the camera to see if it was working fine, so he asked her to stand at a distance, look away from the camera, and on the count of three, slowly spin around. Little did she know that I was right behind her, already on my knees. It was indeed a beautiful moment and she evidently said yes.
Tell us about your wedding day plans. When deciding on our wedding we both knew it had to be in the beautiful islands of The Bahamas. This made the most sense to us because for starters, my wife grew up there, and pretty much the majority of her family resides there.
We had scheduled the wedding for the summer of 2020, paid some vendors, and even traveled there to look at potential reception halls. We were inches away from making hotel and resort reservations for ourselves and our traveling guests when all of a sudden, COVID happened.
At this point, we had to make crucial decisions in order to salvage the situation. We initially felt it would be temporary, but eventually, it was clear that COVID was going to be around for a while. With this knowledge, we decided to postpone the wedding to 2021, but after reassessing the situation, we made the tough call to do a small wedding in Toronto with about 15 guests. We were able to live-stream the wedding so that all of our guests, near and far could enjoy our special moment with us. Our wedding was a lovely intimate ceremony, and we wouldn't change a thing about it.
Important conversations have been happening surrounding Black Lives Matter and now with Black History Month on the horizon, we want to offer additional light and education with our readers. As a black couple that will hopefully someday bring in beautiful black children to this world, the one thing we would like for society (especially non POC) to understand is that we already know that our Black Lives Matter. What we want is for the justice system and all other areas of society to not only acknowledge the same but to show in actions that we in fact matter. Society will be better off when we no longer need to say that Black Lives Matter because actions always speak louder.
What would you like to communicate to this platform as we continue our conversations about black history month and interracial marriages? Love is a wonderful thing, and it comes in all shapes, colours, and sizes. Representation matters and It is a wonderful thing when all facets of love are represented in the media.
Did you experience any discrimination because you are an interracial or black couple while you were wedding planning? We were fortunate enough to not have any such encounters.
