When it comes to preparing for your wedding day there is alot to keep track of and to consider. I found my favourite part was curating and gathering together my personal details for getting ready in the morning and for photos in the bridal suite. I had custom hangers made, custom matching robes for me and my bridesmaids, extra florals delivered for photos of my stationery and accessories. I wanted everything to look perfect and be photo ready.
One thing I never considered was an emergency kit. Thankfully my wonderful seamstress Diana gave me a list of what she considered to be necessities to have on hand. My bridesmaids were kind enough to take this list and turn it into a beautiful gift basket of items to give to me at my bachelorette weekend.
After my wedding I became WPIC certified. During the course we extensively reviewed the necessity of an emergency kit and tips to help with spills. I am sharing some of the most commonly used items and tips here so that you can be prepared and create your own emergency kit for your wedding day.
Emergency Bridal Kit List:
Dove soap can be used to lubricate sticky zippers without leaving a stain.
Talcum powder and chalk will help with stain removal.
Face cloth (white) to blot any watermarks off of your gown. In general, whenever cleaning something off your gown during the day, even dirt from a vineyard, blot, never rub!
Blow dryer (travel size is best) in case your gown gets wet or to dry it off after cleaning up a spill.
Bottled water as most brides forget to stay hydrated throughout the day. From the time you leave for your ceremony up until arriving at the cocktail hour, you don’t want to be without water. Get a cute reusable bottle that keeps cold and is easy to have nearby.
Clear umbrella in case of rain, a nice large clear bubble umbrella will keep you dry and look cute and neutral in your photos. Bonus points if you have them for the bridal party too.
Sewing kit important that this has good scissors in it as well as white/ivory thread or fishing line as this is clear and can blend in on any colour/material.
Hook + Eye for the back of the gown in case yours were to break it’s handy to have an extra to sew on if needed.
Dryer Sheets/Static Guard + lint brush to help cut static and remove lint or pet hair.
Nail file, nail glue, and clear nail polish in case of a broken nail or damage to a manicure.
Common medications such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen, antacid, and allergy meds. After bite may be helpful if you are having an outdoor reception or walking into fields/orchards for photos.
Some miscellaneous items to help with a variety of things like hair spray, Q-tips, kleenex, bobby pins, handheld mirror, bandaids, deodorant, mints/gum, perfume and touch up lipstick/gloss.
You should also consider your sunscreen needs. I had to apply sunscreen prior to getting into my gown. I burn easily and knew that I would be outdoors for photos for 2 hours. I researched to find a non-oily sunscreen, sheer, and matte.
We kept most of this in a cute, stylish makeup bag, the travel-sized ones that fold out work best. We also had customized canvas tote bags with our initials on the front to help hold our personal items.
In case of a spill on the day of keep these handy removal tips in mind:
Red Wine: 2x white wine will remove red wine.
Oils (perfume, salad dressing, makeup, etc): use a Q-tip to gently cover the spot with talcum powder. Wait 15 minutes for the powder to absorb the oil then wipe off gently with a clean white cloth or towel. Any remaining stain can be covered with chalk or try blotting with club soda.
Ink Spot: douse a Q-tip with hairspray then rub it over the stain.
Always know your fabric, most gowns will be made of fabrics that water can damage or leave water stains on.
