A short description of what you do: I'm a wedding and elopement photographer who specializes in capturing outdoor weddings and authentic moments with a documentary approach.
How long have you been working in the wedding industry? 6 years.
What makes your business unique? I have a niche of specializing on weddings and elopements in outdoor environments, often traveling off the beaten path and photographing adventurous moments. I believe this is a quality that makes my business unique!
Favourite part of your business? I am immensely grateful to have a career that aligns so closely with my passions. The creative freedom in wedding photography is one of my favourite parts of my business. This creative freedom allows you to fully dive into a niche that is significant to your values. With my niche being outdoor weddings for adventurous couples, I have the honour of combining my love for the outdoors with my love for documentary photography. I feel constantly fulfilled while I am out photographing and connecting with couples amongst scenic, and adventurous locations!
What inspires you? The great outdoors is a huge inspiration for me! I grew up documenting family camping trips on a point-and-shoot camera. It was my role to capture all the silly and adventurous moments throughout our trips from a young age - whether that was family moments around the fire, or the rugged portages/hikes we bonded through, details of our camping gear, or the beautiful landscapes and wildlife we were constantly immersed with. These key moments will always inspire my photography!
Who is your mentor/hero in the industry? (your own industry or the Niagara wedding industry) Sara Monika, Scarlet O'Neill, Between The Pine, The Foxes, Morning Light Photography - the list is always growing!
On your day off...where would we find you? On my down time you can find me canoe camping or hiking with my dog in the backcountry of Ontario.
If you weren't a wedding vendor, what would be your dream job? If I wasn't a wedding vendor I would absolutely have a job in the outdoor recreation field, anything that works closely with Ontario Parks would be a dream!
What great wedding trends are you seeing this year? The wedding trends that I'm seeing this year are documentary style photography to authentically tell the story of how your day unfolds, and all the in between candid moments. Private vows with a safe and quiet space to soak in the moment and unwind before the ceremony takes place. Film photography has also been a popular request this year!
Do you have any practical advice for couples planning a wedding? There’s no shortage of opinions or expectations when it comes to an event that is loaded with tradition and meaning. This can make planning a wedding feel stressful. But don’t lose sight of what feels good to you and your partner. Make time to included personal moments and special elements that have meaning and significance to you. On your wedding day, you deserve a celebration that’s as unique as you are!
