SET THE MOOD DECOR // VENDOR SPOTLIGHT

Today we are really excited to share a spotlight feature with one of our newest Swish List members, Set The Mood Decor!

A short description of what you do:  Set The Mood Decor is a full service decor company. From setups, to ceremony and reception flips, and cleanups. I love to get into all of the small details when planning; down to the preferred napkin fold, place cards and favour placement. The small details are what make the entire vision come to life and we want to help achieve this for our customers. From the design process to the very last detail, we are there for our clients.

How long have you been working in the wedding industry? Since 2010.

What makes your business unique? Offering custom decor is unique because not everyone can do this. I like to try new draping styles for backdrops, I have made custom ceiling draping and greenery wrapped pillars to name a few. I feel like every wedding needs it's custom touch, maybe it's a cocktail napkin or maybe it's a larger custom decor piece.

Favourite part of your business? My absolute favourite part is seeing an empty room turn into a beautiful masterpiece. All of the time planning, and hours working, to finally see an end product. There is no feeling like it. When I have the opportunity, my favourite part is to watch the ceremony and to just see all the love and joy in peoples eyes. As well as the very rare occasion when my couples see their decorated room before the guests enter — this is so rewarding.

What inspires you? Nature — there is nothing like a hike in the forest to find something to inspire you.

Who is your mentor/hero in the industry? When I first started in the industry, I was amazed by Preston Bailey and to this day he still amazes me. The scale of work that he has done, the publications, education and and beautiful pieces of art are so inspiring. Although I think my list for this question could be so long as every person in the industry is inspiring for different reasons. Some are great at Instagram, some great at writing, some great at taking photo's… the list of inspiration is never ending.

On your day off...where would we find you? As a self care enthusiast, I am very passionate about going to acupuncture, getting a massage or going to a Nordic spa. Relax time is sooo important. When not relaxing, live music or a concert is where you will find me. In the summer, I am out paddle boarding on one of our local water ways.

If you weren't a wedding vendor, what would be your dream job?  Interior design or maybe landscape design.

What great wedding trends are you seeing this year? This year, I am seeing a lot more requests for ceiling decor, large scale dramatic walls, and ceiling structures. The classic palette of greens and whites. Greenery, greenery and more greenery. This was a big trend last year, and another big trend this year. I also see a slow trend of couples using more reusable and eco-friendly solutions.

Do you have any practical advice for couples planning a wedding? Stick with your original loves and gut feelings, don't second guess yourself. Start planning early! When it comes to decor, start with your big must-have pieces, and then work from there. The small details come together easily once that large design items are picked out and you have a vision the entire room.
