VENDOR SPOTLIGHT // MINT + MAGNOLIA
Today we’re taking some time to chat with Swish List member Mint + Magnolia — so much talent + heart!
A short description of what you do: We are a floral design studio, focused entirely on weddings. Everything is custom to each event we work on, from the proposal to the flowers we bring in. We offer full-service, meaning delivery of your bouquets to you on your wedding day, as well as, set up at your ceremony and reception spaces. Aside from flowers & vases we also offer candle and arch rentals to our clients.
How long have you been working in the wedding industry? Four years.
What makes your business unique? I think it's the way we can relate to our clients. Having planned my own wedding not too long ago, I get it. There is a lot that goes into a wedding day, it is a ton of work. That is why we try to be as flexible as possible in our process and offer any useful suggestions we can to help you out.
Favourite part of your business? First, consultations. I love meeting new people and talking through their visions for their wedding flowers and then offering up my own suggestions. A close second, is when the studio is filled with blooms, turning up the music and doing the design work. Lastly, the feeling we get after executing everything for our couples on their wedding day.
What inspires you? The Niagara region, all the (fruit + flower) farms & country landscape around me and my garden.
Who is your mentor/hero in the industry? Locally, I love Shelley (Wine Country Floral)'s work. She designed my wedding flowers and I have learned so much from her! Steve from Sinclair & Moore is a huge industry hero for me. His romantic designs & the way he and his team executes events is so inspiring. I am so lucky to learn from him this Winter at one of his workshops in Seattle.
On your day off...where would we find you? During the summer, you'd probably find me at home most days. We just bought a house in the country and there's a ton of work to do around the property. This Spring we'll be putting in a new cut flower garden and it will be the inaugural year for our tiny flower farm, Mint and Magnolia Garden.
If you weren't a wedding vendor, what would be your dream job? Working in the fashion industry used to be my dream. I did an internship in New York City for fashion PR but since finding floral design, I can't imagine doing anything else.
What great wedding trends are you seeing this year? I am here for the rich, bold tones, even if they're just an accent. But honestly, I think trends are less important than a couple staying true to their personal style.
Do you have any practical advice for couples planning a wedding? Do what feels right for both of you. Everyone has different priorities when it comes to their wedding day. Don't feel you need to do what others have done or what you're seeing on Pinterest & Instagram, if it's something that doesn't align with the day you envision. In terms of florals, start with a colour palette you'd like (or work with your florist to come up with one) and then try to trust them to pick the blooms that will compliment that palette & work with your budget.
