Today we get to spend a little more time getting to know Beth of Sparkle + Twine Event Planning. Beth is one of our newest Swish List members and we are thrilled to have her and her lovely work available to showcase to our readers; hello, Beth!
A short description of what you do: I am a boutique wedding planner with a curated collection of event rentals located in Niagara on the Lake. I specialize in modern, vintage and boheme themes but love bringing any vision to life. Details are my jam.
How long have you been working in the wedding industry? As an independent business owner, 3 years, but have planned events, inclusive of weddings for the past 15 years.
What makes your business unique? Being able to offer custom decor, unique rental options and design services as well as planning and coordination services, allows me to create a fully cohesive look for any event. My strong background in event hospitality and customer service has been an incredible asset that I have been able to rely on time and again while working through client and vendor relations.
Favourite part of your business? How limitless your creativity can be. I love starting with a rough outline of what a wedding is going to look like and then working with all of the crazy-talented people in our industry to flush out all of those finite elements of a wedding day.
What inspires you? To keep learning and creating. I learn something new every single wedding. Your peers and your clients can teach you some pretty amazing things if you are willing to open yourself up to what they have to offer. I have a hard time pressing the repeat button on a setup or a design so I love learning new techniques and observing ways to make my set ups more unique.
Who is your mentor/hero in the industry? (your own industry or the Niagara wedding industry) Suzanne Janke, Hospitality Director at Stratus Wines. I had the opportunity to work directly under Suzanne to execute high-end events, weddings, and corporate functions at Stratus. She inspired my love of events and high level of attention to detail.
Mary Beccario, Events Manager at Oast House. Mary is certainly someone I would consider a mentor as well as a friend. Her level of organization, hospitality experience, and her kindness, is inspiring. I will never forget her faith in me and she has been a champion of my business from day one. She was the first to give me a chance.
On your day off...where would we find you? Drinking a glass of wine, or let’s be honest a good G+T, with a great book. Hanging out with my two crazy kiddos and hubs or strolling through an antique market...I love knick-knacks and pieces with a story to tell.
If you weren't a wedding vendor, what would be your dream job? This is pretty much my dream job. I quit a great career in an industry that I had studied to be in, to follow my dream. I love details so if I had to choose, I 'd say to be a set stylist for a crazy successful movie or tv show.
What great wedding trends are you seeing this year? If I said Boho would you be surprised? I love how organic the feel of weddings is today and when I say organic, I don't mean earthy, I mean how they really work with the feel of the venue to enhance the space. Couples are choosing unique venue spaces that reflect who they are as opposed to trying to make their vision fit in a blank space. There is so much beauty in statement details and minimal touches when your venue speaks for itself.
Do you have any practical advice for couples planning a wedding? Hire a planner or, at the very least, a day-of coordinator. They will take care of all the little details you didn't even know you needed to consider, set up your decor, sew you back into your dress and ensure your guests are well taken care of. They will keep you calm and problem-solve for you so that you, your mom, your BFF, and your aunt can enjoy your day to the fullest.
