VENDOR SPOTLIGHT // HONOR BEAUTY
Getting to chat with Paje of Honor Beauty, a loyal Swish List member here at Vineyard Bride, Paje is a sweet soul with an amazing eye for all things beauty!
A short description of what you do: HONOR Beauty is one of Niagara's only mobile makeup and hair companies to offer vegan and 100% cruelty-free beauty options to wedding and special event clients. We create flawless makeup and hair for women of all ages and ethnic backgrounds. Our team of 20+ artists specialize in creating flawless but natural looking faces and gorgeous hairstyles for your special day.
We have a huge following in the vegan/mindful consumer side of the wedding industry, and are also a company who supports equal rights and same-sex marriages. All you need is Love!
How long have you been working in the wedding industry? I've been working in the wedding industry for 11 years, but HONOR Beauty will be turning 5 this August!
What makes your business unique? The HONOR beauty team consists of a tiered system ranging from Bronze to Gold level artistry, allowing bride to be's and their wedding parties to hire based on their needs and beauty budgets. We understand that wedding hair and makeup will be prioritized differently for each client and want to ensure we are able to cater to everyone based on their unique needs. Our hair and makeup kits are also stocked with quality products from brands that do not test on our furry friends. Using only cruelty-free products is something that we are passionate about and believe that as professionals in the beauty industry, we have a responsibility to help shift brands to take the cruelty-free approach.
Favourite part of your business? I love doing a client's makeup who has never worn makeup before. I will usually complete the application without a mirror in front of them so they can see the final look once it's been completed. Their reaction while looking in the mirror for the first time will never get old! We're often told that they have never looked or felt so beautiful before. It's something that sounds so surface deep, but I truly believe that we are helping women realize how truly beautiful they are from the outside, in!
What inspires you? I'm inspired by kindness. Owning a business in the beauty industry can feel so superficial at times, but if you surround yourself with people who are motivated by kindness, helping others and love instead of money, status, and competition your life becomes so much more fulfilling. Knowing that my kindness is helping another person, motivates and inspires me to model my business in the same way and find other artists who feel the same as I do.
Who is your mentor/hero in the industry? (your own industry or the Niagara wedding industry) I can't say that I have a mentor or hero in the industry, but I am constantly looking up to all of the new, young businessmen and women emerging onto the scene. Their passion, drive, creativity, and zest for life is something that is truly admirable and refreshing for someone like myself who has been doing this for so long.
On your day off...where would we find you? Sleeping in, doing hot yoga, working on my non-profit project called S.H.E B.E O.K or spending time outdoors.
If you weren't a wedding vendor, what would be your dream job? I feel like this answer changes each year, but I think I would be interested in working in the non-profit sector, helping women with backgrounds in addiction and/or abuse.
What great wedding trends are you seeing this year? So far this year, we are noticing a bit more dramatic makeup than in the past. Cut crease eyes, glitter, highlight, and contour like nobody's business. We want to try and bridge the gap between Instagram/filtered/photoshopped makeup and the no-makeup look.
For hair, it's a mix of all down and curled, or loose tousled undoes with undone braids and texture. Hair extensions are still very common for extra length and volume.
Do you have any practical advice for couples planning a wedding? Don't sweat the small stuff and focus on what's important to you (not what you think is important to others). I am a less-is-more kinda gal, so focussing on the elements that make you and your partner happy instead of trying to appeal to your guests is very important. A wedding is a celebration of love and commitment, it shouldn't be something to plan with a goal of landing a magazine spread.
